The Erasmus+ project “Re-thinking masculinity in Europe” aims to educate women and men about male stereotypes that function in Western European society under the patriarchal model.
It is about making men themselves aware that asking for help is manly. The presence of women in the project is essential, as they can help men understand that there is nothing wrong with asking for help. Based on their own female experiences, they will be able to enrich and sensitise men – show them that they can open up and speak honestly about their emotions. In turn, men can show women their perspectives, points of view and experiences.
Men will be able to exchange their experiences about masculinity, mental health and needs. On the other hand, women will have an opportunity to support their relationships with men in terms of experiencing emotions and mental health.
The main goals of the project defined together by the participants are:
- increasing the participants’ knowledge about Erasmus + and encouraging them to participate in further youth mobility;
- increasing young people’s awareness of cultural and historical differences in the lives of women and men over the years;
- exploring equality – understanding it correctly;
- getting to know the stereotypes that have developed in our countries and finding rational and common-sense arguments that refute stereotypes;
- gaining knowledge about male and female gender roles in our societies;
- increasing participants’ knowledge of men’s mental health;
- making short films “Let’s talk about it”;
- gaining the ability to create infographics by participants;
- creating scenarios of workshops on the project’s topic;
- active participation of young people.
