The training course “Fake News Busters: in the Name of Democracy” will be a 6-day activity gathering 18 youth workers from 6 different countries in Treviso, Italy.
Many youngsters do not question the truthfulness of the information from social media and are often not aware that it may be used to influence their opinion or do not know how to properly deal and effectively verify the information.
Our diverse group of youth NGOs from Italy, Ukraine, Albania, Malta, Moldova and Poland, with extensive experience and background relevant to the main idea of the project, is eager to make the lives of young people better by promoting critical thinking, filtering information and informational awareness. We will seek to make sure that partner NGOs develop a practical understanding through various social activities to implement the idea of critical thinking and social media literacy.
These goals will be reached by:
- raising awareness regarding propaganda and disinformation on the Internet;
- discussing manipulations in social networks and their role in affecting democratic regimes;
- exchanging good practices and individual experience on how to verify the trustworthy source of information;
- empowering young people who feel mislead by social media to create the grassroots movement of fighting fake news and online manipulations;
- doing field research with local communities to find out more about youth’s perception of information from social media;
- sharing knowledge and experience regarding the challenges of conscious use of the Internet.
